A Night of Cheese

Brie

I blame Holland.

Living for a year and a half in one of the world’s most cheese-loving countries did me in. Seriously. I have a cheese-addiction. If I could, I would eat cheese for every single meal (and in fact, some days I do just that). Luckily, I have found friends in my MBA program who share my love for cheese, and we decided to celebrate the three new letters behind our names by having a little wine and cheese (emphasis on the cheese) night. My good friend Courtney and I trekked it out to a little town in the Niagara region, where we visited a specialty cheese shop, Chez Fromage. The woman was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and went about giving us plenty of samples to try, as we attempted to find the perfect match for our wines. I was bringing my all-time fave wine, Strewn’s Riesling-Gewurztraminer, and Court was assigned a Chardonnay. In the end, I choose a gouda (again, I blame Holland) flecked with cumin, which complemented the Gewurztraminer’s fruity notes excellently! Court chose a dry sheep’s milk cheese, Zacherie Cloutier. Delish! We both loved it.

Needless to say, we all ate waaaay too much cheese. With seven wine varietals, mixed with seven cheeses, we were in food heaven. Especially me and my friend Dolly who, I’m pretty sure, loves cheese as much as I do. Oh, and I should mention how inspired I’ve been by fellow cheese-loving bloggers, like Nichole and Joanna. Love them, and especially love Joanna’s birthday cheese! Genius.

Yay to cheese….any other cheese-lovers out there?!

Look at all those smart people! And I don't mean because you all like cheese either. I guess I missed the part where you got the three new letters behind your name?
I sometimes miss stuff. What can I say?

CONGRATULATIONS!

That's cool.

And yes, I'm a cheese lover. Only thing is, I do have to have some moderation, or there might be issues. My wife, bless her heart, is like you. She could eat cheese morning noon and night, and without the side effects that I might suffer. The only consideration is, many cheeses have a lot of salt, and with elevated blood pressure, she still has to be careful. It's always better to prevent, than to simply medicate.

We discovered a cheese shop in the Naschmarkt a few months back that had every possible cheese you could think of. Being in EU, it's easy to now get any cheese produced in any of the member countries. Of course, going into the shop can be a bit of a heady experience, since the overwhelming smell of cheese can be well, overwhelming.
Nice to see you now at least have some time to enjoy yourself.
Have fun.

Bob.

Um...so apparently if I were to just scroll down the page, I might have noticed the "three new letters" thing?
*sigh*
I never used to be this dim.
Possibly has something to do with having the attention span of a gnat.
Again. Congrats.

@Christine: I am OBSESSED with the St. Lawrence Market. We go there almost every weekend! Besides the cheese, my other favourite part is the antiques market on Sunday mornings.

@Bob: Thank you so much! Oh how I miss those cheese shops in Europe! Enjoy a slice of European cheese for me, will you?!
